Dear Friend:

We invite you to consider joining the Agricultural Drainage Management Coalition (ADMC). The ADMC is dedicated to promoting better agricultural drainage technologies and practices to agricultural producers. For instance, research is proving that installing better subsurface drainage technologies can significantly reduce nutrient enrichment of our nation’s waterways, as well as increase yields in many cases. To help offset the costs of installing better drainage technologies, producers can use a portion of the $40 billion in farmland conservation funding that the 2002 farm bill is providing over the next ten years. Overall, we strongly believe that this initiative will produce business opportunities for associated industries and create wealth in the agricultural community for generations to come.

Already the coalition's membership includes a diverse group of trade associations, drainage suppliers, contractors and farmers that share a vision of installing more effective and smarter agricultural drainage of cropland. Please take a moment and review this website. The ADMC has already achieved acceptance of conservation drainage at the local, state, and national levels; among government agencies, industry leaders; and, most importantly, producers and landowners.

The ADMC is working very closely with the Agricultural Drainage Management Systems (ADMS) Task Force, comprised of researchers and leaders from Land Grant Universities, the Agricultural Research Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which is devoted to the same cause as the ADMC is – promoting more effective and smarter drainage technologies to agricultural producers and organizations.

Farm and conservation publications, such as Farm Journal, The Furrow, and Conservation Partners, have already written articles about the benefits of managed drainage, so the word is spreading. But organizing the deployment of this technology is no easy matter. It takes industry leaders, researchers and planners working together with landowners and other organizations to install these systems. This is why we need your contributions to support these collaborative and coalition-building efforts within states and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

To become a member of the ADMC, the suggested levels of support are $500 to $5,000 yearly. Members are encouraged to sign up for an initial 12 month commitment. A single contribution at any level will also be greatly appreciated. The ADMC has applied for tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.

Please complete the "Membership Information" and return it to the address provided on the form or fax it to the specified number. Please do not hesitate to call me at 1-800-232-4742 if you have any questions or concerns.

We hope to look back on this moment as the turning point in making better use of water in agricultural crop production while improving water quality in the Mississippi and Ohio River Watersheds. This practice is definitely the missing link in the chain for achieving both. We hope that you will join us.

Sincerely,

Charlie Schafer
President of ADMC
President of Agri Drain Corp.
